Google and Meta Pay the Highest Salaries to Software Engineers

Google and Meta Pay the Highest Salaries to Software Engineers, Apple and Microsoft Pay the Least to Entry-Level Engineers. A recent report by Blind, an anonymous forum for technology employees, found that Google and Meta (formerly known as Facebook) pay the highest salaries to their software engineers, while Apple and Microsoft pay the least to entry-level engineers.

The report, which is based on compensation packages reported by Blind users from January 2022 to the present, found that Google pays an average of $184,000 to entry-level software engineers, followed by Meta at $179,000. Apple and Microsoft pay an average of $142,000 and $141,000, respectively.

For experienced engineers, the salaries across all companies are more comparable. Google pays an average of $244,000 to experienced software engineers, followed by Meta at $235,000. Apple and Microsoft pay an average of $215,000 and $200,000, respectively.

The report also found that Google has the most balanced or equitable salary bands among the top tech companies. This means that it's rare for someone at a lower level to earn significantly more than someone at a higher level in the company. Additionally, the report highlights that engineers at Meta (Facebook) experience the fastest career advancement and receive the highest salaries.

In the case of Microsoft, the report shows that the company offers various job levels for software engineers, which allows for more promotions. However, the overall compensation for these positions is lower compared to similar roles at other companies.

20-Year-Old Google Software Engineer Claims to Work Just One Hour a Day

In a separate but related development, a 20-year-old Google software engineer claimed to work just one hour a day and earn an annual salary of $150,000 (approximately 1.2 crore rupees). This engineer starts his week by coding for "a good chunk" of any task and submits it to his manager when it's completed.

Due to this a debate have sparked about the work-life balance of software engineers at tech companies. Some people have argued that most software engineers work much longer hours. Others have said that the tech industry is becoming increasingly exploitative.

It is important to note that the work-life balance of software engineers can vary depending on the company, the team, and the individual. However, the report's findings suggest that Google and Meta are two of the best companies for software engineers in terms of salary and career advancement.
